20th Annual Old Kentucky Home Tour

by Norm Minnick

Itís time once again for the event of the year, our annual Old Kentucky Home Tour. This year marks our 20th anniversary, so in addition to the tradition of food, folks and fun, you can be sure it will be extra special!

The two-day ride to Bardstown and back is scheduled for September 13 and 14, and again this year we will offer a Sunday one-day ride (Sept. 14).

Saturday riders have a choice of 45, 62, or 100 miles to Bardstown and 50 miles back on Sunday. All of these routes are spectacular and well-marked and well-sagged. The 62-mile route features a covered bridge and the 100 is one of the most challenging centuries around (there are a couple of hills).

Sunday one-day riders can choose from 12, 22 or 42 miles. The 42-mile route takes you to our world famous cookie stop featuring literally thousands of homemade cookies.

Speaking of food... this is one ride you can actually gain weight on! The amount of food is unbelievable. Saturday evening will feature a spaghetti supper, slide show, door prized and once again, a party in the cafeteria. Sunday morning we start off with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast featuring the King of Pancakes, Chris Cakes.

If you havenít received your brochure and registration form by now, please call Debbie Browning at (502) 893-4232 or pick one up at a bike shop or at an upcoming ride (or get the registration form here at the web site). You probably have seen our 1997 OKHT jersey (designed by John Mahorney) and we also will have a T-shirt designed by Marilyn Motsch. Get both! Order now. They really look great!

Registrations are starting to come in hot and heavy already. Last year we had almost 600 riders. Donít miss out! Speaking of registration, if you are planning on staying in a motel in Bardstown, get your reservations made now. A list of motels is in the brochure.

We could also use volunteers for SAGs and other fun areas. This is a great way to get involved and meet people. Call Brenda Palmer (502) 267-9175 or Carol Leist (502) 491-9368.

Hope to see you there and bring a friend!
