January 1999 Rides & Events

Ride ratings:
    #1 Primarily flat
    #2 Mostly flat with some hills, perhaps 1/3 of total distance is hills
    #3 Rolling hills
    #4 Rolling with occasional steep hills. Difficult!
    #5 Dominated by steep hills and extreme grades.
Pace Ratings: (average speed)
    A Pace = 8-10 miles/hour average
    B Pace = 10-13 miles/hour average
    C Pace = 13-15 miles/hour average
    D Pace = 15-18 miles/hour average
    E Pace = 18+ miles/hour average

ANSI- or Snell-approved helmets are required


Friday, January 1

  • 11:00 am - Our Annual Polar Bear Ride. 15/25 mi. #2/#3. Meet at Highland Cycle on Bardstown Road and drop by after the ride for something warm. RCs: Gil and Ted Morris, 502-239-7921.

Saturday, January 2

  • 1:30 pm - 15 mi. #1, Family/Recreational Ride on the Riverwalk. Meet at the Waterfront Park near 2nd and River Road. All paces and children accompanied by an adult. If you have a choice, bring a hybrid or MTB, but road bikes OK. RC: Adrian Freund, 502-231-1083.

Sunday, January 3

  • 10:00 am - 15/25 mi. #2/#3. E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. RC: Bob Horner, 502-228-4777.

  • All day (9:00–5:00), Cheap thrills (open trails), Bike Butler, $5.00. Bring helmet, food, beverage. Check with Cheryl Brawner, 502-896-8109 or BikeButler.com before traveling. Repeat last Sunday of each month.

Ride captains are instructed to accommodate riders at all pace levels, including those shown on the schedule. Family rides accommodate all pace levels. Contact ride captain if you have a question about speed or difficulty!
