Lung Association Gears Up for Shakertown Trekby David Runge and Carolyn Embry
The American Lung Association will celebrate the new millenium and the 15th anniversary of its popular Bike Trek to Shakertown with an autumn ride planned for September 16-18! For those who can't ride all three days, a two-day option is available on September 16 and 17.
The round-trip route begins in Harrodsburg, with the first night's stay in Danville's Pioneer Playhouse. Sunday's ride starts in Danville and culminates at Shakertown, the highlight of the trek. Upon arrival, you can tour the village, cruise down the Kentucky River, dine on country gourmet cooking, enjoy some great guitar and spend the night in the 19th Century Shaker dwellings.
David Runge has mapped out a great route for cyclists of all abilities. Beginners can ride 30-35 miles each day, while more experienced riders can be vertically-challenged on Sunday's metric century!
First class service abounds, with experienced leaders, on the road repairs, gear trucks, great sag stops, free massages and live entertainment.
Each rider will pay a $45.00 registration fee, and will raise a minimum of $250.00 to fight lung disease. The American Lung Association assists with fund raising tips, assistance in collecting pledges and outstanding incentive prizes.
