Ride Captains -- Thank You!
Every year the club's ride captains work very hard designing interesting routes that take us to new areas and roads. They also mark miles and miles of routes so that you don't need a cue sheet, and try to make sure every rider who wants to ride with the club has a safe and enjoyable time. If you have ever enjoyed one of the club's rides, you have the ride captains to thank. This is a special thank you to all the great ride captains that, once again, are giving us a spectacular year of rides. The next time you see a ride captain, thank them for all their hard work; they truly deserve a warm pat on the back.
But the best way you can thank the club's few active ride captains is by becoming a ride captain yourself. It's really not hard to lead a ride, and the currently active ride captains are here to help you every step of the way. Even if you are already a ride captain or you just want to understand how to support the club's ride captains, you'll have something to learn, so we encourage everyone to attend a Ride Captain Training Class. Check the Schedule of Rides and Events for date, time and location. Call Jim McDonald (244-0931) for more details and/or the location.
Touring Awards Program
There has been a lot of commotion and heated verbal exchanges at various times over the years about the failings and inadequacies of the current Touring Program awards.
The most prevalent complaints have been the lack of emphasis on efforts of the volunteers and ride captains and the value/benefit to the club of the mileage jerseys. In an effort to address some of these complaints, we are reviewing and updating the current awards. It is our goal to have a revised Touring Program award system, approved by the general membership, in place for the 2001 cycling season.
At the last Touring Meeting, on June 3rd, a brainstorming session was started for ideas on how to change/improve the current awards. Over the next two months, we will be accepting any and all ideas on the Touring Program awards. You can send your ideas to me via snail-mail or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org). Or come to the next General Membership meeting in mid-July or the next Touring Meeting at the end of July to voice your ideas/opinions.
A special Touring meeting will be held at the end of August/beginning of September to prepare a draft of the new awards. The draft will be presented at the September general membership meeting. A vote will be held at that meeting for accepting or rejecting the proposed new awards system.
If you would like to be involved in this process, please contact me via e-mail or call me at 244-0931 (after 6, before 10 - weekdays).
