Bike Maintenance Classes

by A.B. Sandefur – VP Education

The bike and rider maintenance classes were held on Thursday nights in March. Each class was a huge success. A total of 197 people attended the classes.

Featured instructor Glenn Todd covered every part of the bike and showed what should be done to each. Cheryl Brawner showed how a rider must fit a bike for comfort and efficiency. Brad Swope covered every aspect of training and nutrition that can help every rider. Steve Sarson explained that having proper clothing and equipment is necessary for successful riding.

Other club volunteers taught in small group sessions, covering such things as road etiquette, gearing and shifting, riding techniques, club rides and how to fix a flat tire. Our thanks to Phil Patterson, Ian Schill, Tom Armstrong, Eddie Doerr, Mike Pitt, Steve Engh, Allan Darby and John Samways for a great job.

Thursday the 29th, after the last class, Highland Cycle, Clarksville Schwinn and Schellers Fitness and Cycling showed entry level and high end bicycles and equipment. Both new riders and club veterans enjoyed the dazzling display of colors and varieties of bikes.

Our thanks to the exhibitors and for helping with door prizes every night. Please support your local bicycle shops.

And a warm welcome to those who attended. We’ll look for you on the roads!
