1997 Kentuckiana Spring Training Series

March 1, Becknerville Loop, Lexington, KY
From I-75 South, get off at Exit 109, Man-O-War Blvd., Go right at the end of the ramp. At the first light, go left on Todds Rd. Follow Todds Rd to Pine Grove Market. At the market, turn right on Becknerville Rd. Follow Becknerville Rd to Mt. Zion Church on the right. Park in the church lot. No parking on the grass! Course description: A 9-mile, 3 corner rolling loop on smooth roads. Promoter: Fred Steinbrecher (502) 695-4468, Bluegrass Cycling Club.

March 2, Boonesboro Loop, Lexington, KY
From I-75 South, get off at Exit 104, Athens/Boonesboro Exit. Go East on KY 418 about 1 mile to Athens School on the right. Parking and registration will be at the school. Course description: A rolling too hilly 18-mile loop with one difficult climb. Promoter: Fred Steinbrecher (502) 695-4468, Bluegrass Cycling Club.

March 8 & March 15, L’Esprit Road Race, LaGrange, KY
From I-71 North of Louisville, Exit 28 at KY 153, go north on KY 153 and follow signs approx. 1 mile to L’Esprit Pkwy. Turn left and follow signs to registration. Course description: 11-mile loop, rolling with some flat sections and one challenging climb. Promoter: Cheryl Brawner (502) 459-9949, Louisville Bicycle Club.

March 9 & March 22, KY MBA Fort Duffield, West Point, KY
From Louisville, take I-65 South to the Gene Snyder Freeway, go west until freeway ends on Dixie Hwy. Go south on Dixie to West Point, Kentucky. Look for signs (on east side of road just past the Ohio Valley Raceway). Promoters: Kentucky Mountain Bike Association (502) 569-7676. These are both NORBA-sanctioned events!

March 16 & March 23, Campbellsburg Road Race, Campbellsburg, IN
From Louisville, take I-65 North approximately 7 miles to Hwy. 60 (Salem Exit). Take Hwy. 60 West through Salem to Campbellsburg. From Indianapolis, take Hwy. 37 South to Mitchell, then go east on Hwy. 60 for 12 miles to Campbellsburg. Park at bank and K&E Grocery! Promoters: Bob Peters (802) 948-2453. Rapid Transit Racing Team.

March 29, Concept Cyclocross, Skylight, KY
From Louisville, take I-264 East or I-265 North to Brownsboro Rd (US 42). Travel north, away from Louisville, through Prospect, Goshen and finally, Skylight (approx. 15-20 miles). Meade’s Landing Farm will be on the left. Look for signs. From Cincinnati, take I-71 South and exit at LaGrange, right on Hwy. 53. Travel through LaGrange then go 4 miles to US 42. Take a left onto Hwy. 42. Meade’s Landing Farm is approx. 5-8 miles on the right. Course description: 3.5-mile dirt course with 250' elevation gain per lap, ˝ technical singletrack and ˝ fast double track. There are several dismounts. The individual clubs which are promoting these races have applied for USCF permits separately.

Distances Will be announced at each race. Generally, Cat 1, 2, 3 Men will ride 35 to 45 miles, others will ride 20-35 miles.
Prizes Ribbons will be awarded at each race for first through fifth place.
Entry Fee $8.00 per race plus USA Cycling insurance fee.
Registration Closes ˝ hour before each race! All entrants for USCF races MUST present a valid 1997 USCF license at registration.
Start Time All races will start at noon, Eastern Standard Time!
Categories Sr. Men 1, 2, 3, Sr. Men 4&5, Sr. Women 1,2,3, Sr., Women 4, Master (35+) Men and Woman, Jr. Men & Women in all age categories. Races for citizens Men and Women will also be run.
Special Note
  • Mountain Bikes may be ridden in the cyclocross events.
  • ALL USCF rules will be enforced. ALL RIDERS must wear a helmet acceptable under current USCF rules at all times when on the bike.
  • ALL BUT THREE of the races will be held on OPEN courses which other traffic may be present.
  • ANY RIDER GUILTY OF ILLEGAL, DANGEROUS OR DISCOURTEOUS BEHAVIOR may be removed from the race and/or asked to attend future races in the series at the discretion of the officials.
  • THE OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO combine classes, shorten distances, limit or split fields or take any other measures deemed necessary to insure a safe fair event.
